-
- Greetings! Someone offered to sell me the CD-10 callsign display
- unit for my kenwood th-3600a. My question: is this a semi-usefull,
- though frivilous, feature or something that only 3600as can do between
- each other? He only want's $20, so it's not a major investment...but
- as I'm just entering the world of v/uhf, I have no idea if this (new
- when the rig was new about 8 years ago) technology is still in use. Any
- info would be appreciated.

- In addition to the responses on the net, I received about 18 e-mail
- messages.
-
- ALL of them were very positive about the OMNI V (and Ten Tec gear in
- general). Thanks for the input. It's all benn very helpful.
-
- BTW, several hams told me that they owned several rigs and ended up selling
- the others because they were spoiled by the Ten Tec. The closest I received
- to an endorsement of another manufacturer's rig was by someone who said
- that the 930S came closest to performing as well as the Omni V.

- Right. I really wish they'd build a radio with a 0 Hz offset so you don't
- have to do the math. Hitting the SSB mode switch sort of gets you there,
- but only from one side, and there's a gap between zero beat and (I guess)
- the bottom end of the audio pass band, but you can get a pretty good estimate
- even so.

- Subject: Using modified HT in emergency
- To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
-
- In reference to a ham using his HT for emergency communications on police
- communications frequencies. First off, the sheriff department doesn't own the
- frequencies they use, they are licensed to use them by the Federal
- Government. So if these freqencies were used, then it's the Federal Government
- who has "suffered". Also, if you look at ALL communication acts passed by
- Congress, you will notice that the Federal Government has SOLE authority on ALL
- matters regarding radio communications. If a local or state authority
- attempted to regulate radio communications, they would be overstepping their
- authority and would be subject to both civil and criminal complaints.
- Most people are thinking that "it's not worth spendintg $3000 to save a $300
- radio". In business that would be true. But this isn't a business situation.
- If all said is true, then the party should contact the ARRL and just about
- anyone else that will listen and take that bastards the Federal Court.
